Travis B. Redman, seaman 2nd class, and pilot LT True Miller took off in Coast Guard aircraft V-145, a Grumman JF-2 Duck, from the St. Petersburg, FL Air Station Sunday, September 29, 1940 for a local night training flight. When the amphibian plane did not return to the airport at the expected time, planes and patrol boats were dispatched to search Tampa Bay. Miller’s body was recovered October 1. The search continued for Redman without success.
