On April 17, 1994, SA Shane Maloney, assigned to Station Georgetown, SC, was directed to a bridge over the Intracoastal Wateway to attempt identification of a vessel reported in distress. SA Maloney was struck by a passing vehicle, causing him to fall from the bridge to his death.
