Seamen Recruit Aaron Redd, 21, of Stafford, Va., collapsed July 1, 2016 after a 1.5-mile timed run as part of Delta Company 193’s physical fitness assessment. Coast Guard medical personnel provided immediate aid before he was taken by ambulance to Cape Regional Medical Center. But Redd died at the hospital five days later.
He was an organ donor whose heart helped save another through the Gift of Life Foundation. “He wanted to save lives and now his incredibly strong, beautiful heart continues to beat on,” the family wrote in his obituary.
