On November 24, 1960, BM1 Anthony Holmes and FNEN Hugh McClements from CG Station Point Reyes, CA responded to a disabled fishing boat in distress near Bodega Bay. While en route two-man crew radioed their estimated time of arrival to the Life Boat Station, but were never heard from again.
The next morning a search party found their boat aground on Point Reyes’ Great Beach. It’s motor was still running and its propellers were turning, but the surfmen were nowhere to be found. Five days later Holmes’ body washed up on the beach and almost a month later McClements’ body washed ashore.
