On August 17, 1929 BMC Sidney Sanderlin, Petty Officer Victor Lamby, and Operative Robert Webster of the United States Secret Service, were shot by a suspect they had just arrested for rum running near the Bimini Islands in the Bahamas. Sanderlin and Webster died immediately. Lamby succumbed to his wounds four days later.
One of the suspects turned state’s evidence and was sentenced to one year in prison. The other suspect was sentenced to death and hung at the Coast Guard Station in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
