On November 2, 1986 CG-1473, a Sikorsky HH-3F helicopter assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, crashed while responding to a remote village to help a man injured in a football game, killing a surgeon and the five crewmembers aboard. The aircraft crashed into uninhabited Ugak Island en route to Akhiok, a settlement of about 90 Aleut villagers on the southwestern end of Kodiak Island.
