On the night of June 8, 1997, CG-6549 crashed while responding to a sailing vessel taking on water in poor weather conditions and high seas off the coast of California. It is believed that the aircraft, an Aérospatiale HH-65A Dolphin, impacted the water while attempting to make an approach to the vessel. No member of the aircrew survived.
